| The Pacific The team at iloura has been awarded another parcel of VFX shots on the HBO series ‘The Pacific’. Iloura commenced visual effects production on The Pacific in early 2008. The ten part mini series from the creators of Band Of Brothers, tells the intertwined story of 3 U.S. Marines during battle with the Japanese in WWII. Initially the team at iloura were engaged to assist with onset requirements and to produce a modest number of shots. However the production’s growing confidence in the team has resulted in the recent award of a substantial and complex visual effects package making iloura one of the main contributors to the VFX on this new series from HBO. |

| Australia - in the running for VFX Oscar! The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences recently announced the teams behind Australia, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Dark Knight, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, Iron Man, Journey to the Centre of the Earth and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor are all in the running for Oscar nominations, in the Visual Effects category. The VFX team on Australia was led by experienced supervisor Chris Godfrey, (ex-Animal Logic co-founder) with additional VFX supervision from Jamie Price (Lord of the Rings : The Two Towers, Time Machine, Enemy of the State). The team brought together a huge collection of predominately Australian VFX houses to deliver over 1450 shots for the period drama. Melbourne based iloura and Sydney based Animal Logic were the two biggest single vendors. Other vendors included Rising Sun Pictures, FuelFX, PhotonVfx, Framestore, Evil Eye Pictures, Post Modern, Complete Post, The LaB, Hydraulx/Lola and several others including a "Home Bake" in house vfx team. Iloura contributed over 180 VFX shots to the sweeping epic and the involvement was wide ranging; a number of scenes were straight forward but required fairly complex compositing work and an equal number of shots depicting the bombing of Darwin during WWII and its aftermath were particularly challenging. Both practical and CG pyro and smoke atmosphere were integrated with 3D CG of the badly damaged wharf, massive burning ships, the returning Sloop, CG Zero planes, 3D Darwin streetscapes and foreground plate photography. The academy's Visual Effects branch members will view excerpts from each of the seven short-listed films and will then reveal Oscar nominees for all categories on January 22. |
